Police are investigating after a man’s body was discovered in Lake Balaton between Balatonszepezd and Révfülöp. Authorities have confirmed that an administrative procedure has been launched to establish the circumstances of the death, but have not released further details.

Body discovered in Lake Balaton

A man’s body was found floating in Lake Balaton between the villages of Balatonszepezd and Révfülöp on 24 June, according to Hungarian media reports. The discovery prompted an investigation by the authorities, who are currently examining the circumstances surrounding the death.

The incident is believed to have occurred on Wednesday, with the body later recovered from the water.

Reports suggest possible suicide

Several Hungarian news outlets have reported that the deceased suffered a gunshot wound to the head, with 24.hu’s reader suggesting the possibility of suicide.

According to Veol, the man was not from Veszprém County but may have travelled to the region from the area around Budapest. However, the authorities have not confirmed these reports, and the exact circumstances are under investigation.

Police confirm investigation

Responding to media enquiries, the Veszprém County Police Headquarters stated that the case is being examined under Hungary’s general administrative procedure governing unexplained deaths.

The Balaton Water Police are leading the investigation. The Somogy County Police Headquarters also confirmed to the Hungarian News Agency (MTI) that an administrative procedure is underway, but declined to provide additional information while the investigation continues.

At this stage, police have not released the identity of the deceased or confirmed the cause of death.
