A British man disappeared from a Budapest hospital yesterday to watch the Champions League final at the Puskás Arena.

British football fan chooses Puskás Aréna over Budapest hospital

Police have successfully made contact with a British man left in a life-threatening condition following an electric scooter accident, reaching him via a relative. The football supporter has since returned to hospital, where he is receiving appropriate medical care, police headquarters said in a statement on Facebook on Saturday afternoon.

Earlier, authorities had issued an appeal to locate an Englishman who had absconded from hospital despite suffering life-threatening injuries. He had been admitted earlier in the day after falling from an electric scooter, the Hungarian News Agency wrote.

It later emerged that, notwithstanding the severity of his condition, the man discharged himself against medical advice, determined to attend an evening football match.

Mass brawls ahead of the match

Yesterday, PSG and Arsenal competed for the title of Europe’s top club, with PSG successfully defending their title at Puskás Arena.

Earlier, tens of thousands of British and French football fans arrived in the Hungarian capital, prompting Budapest Airport to reopen Terminal 1 to accommodate flights from London.

Authorities attempted to separate supporters of the two teams into different areas of the city, but on Friday some members of the more hardline groups clashed in Király Street in the city centre, where a mass brawl broke out and several people were injured. Video footage of the incident has since emerged.

During the match itself, however, no significant violence occurred. According to a spokesperson for the Hungarian ambulance service, there were no exceptional incidents.
