Brussels drops road toll infringement procedure against Hungary
Budapest, November 26 (MTI) – The European Commission has dropped an infringement procedure against Hungary for failing to call a tender to build a road toll system for commercial vehicles, a commission source told MTI.
Hungary introduced a per-kilometre toll on commercial vehicles over 3.5 tonnes last year.
The source, who asked not to be named, said the commission had been forced to drop the procedure because the contracts in question had been fulfilled and money paid for the services, leaving the EU’s executive body powerless in the matter.
“The commission closed the procedure because of procedural rules, but they continue to believe that Hungary obviously violated EU rules on public procurement,” the source told MTI.
