The Budapest Airport winter schedule for 2026/27 offers travellers more than 185 destinations, increased flight frequencies to popular European and Asian cities, and a brand-new route to Egypt. Whether passengers are planning a festive city break, a Christmas market getaway or an escape to warmer climates, Hungary’s main international airport is expanding its options for the colder months.

The aviation industry’s winter season begins on 25 October, coinciding with the autumn clock change in Europe. For Budapest Airport, the new season brings a continued focus on expanding connectivity, increasing flight frequencies and offering passengers greater flexibility.

Compared with the previous winter, the airport’s airlines are offering 10% more bookable seats, largely thanks to additional services on established routes. The expanded network aims to accommodate both leisure travellers and passengers visiting friends and family during the festive period.

Budapest Airport winter schedule expands flights to Asia

Travellers hoping to exchange Europe’s short winter days for a longer holiday in Asia will benefit from more frequent connections during the 2026/27 winter season.

Daily direct flights will connect Budapest with Shanghai and Beijing, while Guangzhou will be served three times a week. These routes also provide connecting opportunities to destinations across Southeast Asia, making it easier for passengers to plan longer journeys.

However, travellers heading to tropical destinations should check local weather patterns before booking, particularly as monsoon seasons vary significantly across the region.

More flights to Scandinavia and European Christmas markets

The Budapest Airport winter schedule also strengthens European connections, particularly for passengers planning long weekends, festive breaks and Christmas market visits.

Seat capacity on Scandinavian routes will increase by 35% compared with last winter. Wizz Air will operate four weekly flights to Oslo, opening up opportunities to explore Norway’s winter landscapes, forests and mountains.

Meanwhile, SAS Scandinavian Airlines will offer two daily flights between Budapest and Copenhagen on several days in November and December. The Danish capital is particularly attractive during the festive season, with its Christmas decorations, cosy cafés and renowned hygge atmosphere.

Several other European regions will also see increased capacity:

  • Poland: 50% more available seats compared with the previous winter.
  • Baltic region: 7.4% more seats, providing additional opportunities to explore historic cities.
  • Spain: 12% more seats, offering greater flexibility for travellers seeking milder temperatures.

These developments will make it easier to plan short European escapes without committing to a lengthy holiday.

easyJet launches four new routes between Budapest and the UK

The United Kingdom is another major focus of the winter schedule, with easyJet introducing four additional connections from Budapest.

The airline is launching services to Belfast, Bristol, Liverpool and London Southend, providing more travel opportunities in both directions.

The London Southend route will operate throughout the year, while the other three destinations will be served twice weekly from mid-November until the end of December.

The additional flights are expected to support inbound tourism to Budapest during the festive period while giving Hungarian travellers more options for exploring British cities and their Christmas attractions.

With these additions, easyJet’s Budapest network will have expanded from three to eleven routes over three years.

New Budapest–Marsa Alam flight offers a winter sun escape

For passengers who would rather swap winter coats for swimwear, one of the most appealing additions is Wizz Air’s new direct service to Marsa Alam, Egypt.

Situated on the western coast of the Red Sea, Marsa Alam is known for its beaches, coral reefs and marine wildlife. Visitors can enjoy snorkelling and diving, look for sea turtles in their natural habitat or take part in desert excursions.

The destination offers an alternative to Europe’s colder weather, particularly for travellers who missed their summer holiday or want to enjoy a sunny break towards the end of the year.

What the winter schedule means for travellers

Budapest Airport, officially known as Ferenc Liszt International Airport, is Hungary’s principal international aviation hub and an important gateway to Central Europe.

With more than 185 destinations, increased capacity across several regions and new routes serving both European cities and winter sun resorts, the 2026/27 winter schedule offers considerably more choice than the previous season.

Passengers planning trips around Christmas or New Year should nevertheless check operating dates and frequencies carefully, as some newly introduced services are seasonal.

For travellers departing from Hungary, the expanded schedule means that a festive weekend in Copenhagen, a longer Asian adventure or a sunny escape to Egypt could all begin at Budapest Airport this winter.
