Answering a call by the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Hungary, hundreds gathered at an unprecedented candlelight vigil in Budapest to honour the lives of over 20,000 children killed in Gaza. The emotionally charged event drew an outpouring of solidarity from diplomats, political figures, and members of civil society.

Nearly 60 ambassadors and official representatives from various countries were in attendance, alongside Hungarian civll society, NGOs, and diverse community groups. The vigil offered not just remembrance, but a collective cry for justice and peace.

H.E. Dr. Fadi Elhusseini, Ambassador of Palestine, delivered a heartfelt speech, followed by remarks from H.E. Ambassador Karima Kabbaj of Morocco, Dean of the Arab and African Ambassadors. In one of the evening’s most touching moments, a 7-year-old girl who survived the war in Gaza shared a short but powerful message of hope.

The sky filled with white balloons and doves, symbolising peace and innocence. As candles were lit during a moment of silence, an epic and unforgettable scene unfolded — one that reflected both the depth of sorrow and the strength of collective humanity.

The Embassy of Palestine expressed its deep gratitude for the solidarity shown, stressing that such “moments renew the spirit to continue the fight for justice, freedom, and dignity.”
