Budapest is also affected by Lufthansa strike
Almost a thousand Lufthansa flights were cancelled on Tuesday because the Vereinigung Cockpit pilot union decided to strike. It affects short, mid –and long term flights as well. On Wednesday no morning and early afternoon flights to Frankfurt will depart from Ferihegy airport and neither will early – and late afternoon flights to Munich.
The strike will affect one third of the flights on Wednesday (which includes 140.000 passengers altogether), but the planes of other companies belonging to the airline group (Swiss, Austrian, Germanwings, Brussels Airlines) are running according to schedule. Those who could not board can choose another flight or can have a refund. The German railway company accepts the domestic flights’ plane tickets as well.
Lufthansa tried to convince the Frankfurt jury on Tuesday not to allow the union to have a strike on Wednesday, but got rejected. Vereinigung Cockpit threatened to have another strike if the union’s and the company’s needs do not meet – the union fights for early retirement and cost reduction.
According the Budapest Airport no morning and early afternoon flights to Frankfurt will depart from Ferihegy airport, and neither will early –and late afternoon flights to Munich on Wednesday.
