The Budapest municipality is preparing a “reopening package” to help the hospitality industry after the lifting of coronavirus-related restrictions, which is expected in the spring, a deputy mayor said.

The municipality will expand areas available for restaurant terraces and ease red tape on tourism-related requests, Erzsébet Gy Németh told an online press conference on Monday.

Budapest will also “reduce the lease on terrace space by almost 100 percent,” widen the use of public spaces and expand discounts on leases, Gy Németh said. Meanwhile, red tape on organising events will also be reduced, she said.

When reopening the economy, the city leadership will work to consider experts’ opinions and to preserve people’s safety, she added.

As we wrote two days ago, chairman of the Hungarian Medical Chamber Gyula Kincses talked about the prerequisites of the “Great Hungarian Reopening” on ATV. He said that mass vaccination needs at least three conditions: professional human resources, the number of vaccines available, and equipment supporting the two former conditions, details HERE.

I have been so concerned about my relatives & old co-workers back home in the areas around Miskolc. Here in Nova Scotia Canada we have been so fortunate. Our Premier came on the radio last March and said “STAY THE BLAZES HOME” and we did. We ‘bought the T-shirt’ as we say…but we really did because small entrepreneurs started printing clothing, coffee mugs etc. Then when we realized that people were not spreading Covid we said we are NOVA SCOTIA STRONG and bought yet another T-shirt. We continued to behave as much as we could but still have some immediate family contact as we struggled with all the rule changes and hardships. But we have remained the safest place in all of Canada and so can have many things open again including schools since the Fall. Our leaders learn from other places and avoid their mistakes, also follow their successes. I wish that for everyone in my beloved Hungary.
