Four people, including two children, were injured in a serious crash on Hungary’s M7 motorway near Zalakomár on Wednesday afternoon, after a British-registered car collided with a road maintenance truck.
One of the children was thrown from the car in the impact and was airlifted to hospital. According to the National Ambulance Service, the child suffered serious injuries but was in a stable condition. Two adults and the other child sustained minor injuries.
British-registered car crashed into maintenance truck
According to 24.hu, the accident happened on the Budapest-bound carriageway of the M7 motorway, between kilometres 189 and 190 near Zalakomár in Zala County. As per the police, the British-registered passenger car crashed into a road maintenance vehicle for reasons that are not yet known. All four occupants of the car were injured.
The force of the collision caused one of the children to be thrown out of the vehicle. Several ambulance units, including an air ambulance, were dispatched to the scene. The seriously injured child was transported to hospital by helicopter, while the two adults and the other child were taken to hospital with less serious injuries.
M7 motorway temporarily closed
The Budapest-bound side of the M7 was completely closed while police investigated the crash and emergency crews carried out the necessary rescue and recovery work. Drivers were diverted towards Route 7 at the Zalakomár junction, causing disruption to traffic in the area.
The closure was later lifted on Wednesday afternoon, and the M7 motorway at Zalakomár was reopened to traffic. The circumstances of the crash are under investigation.
