What began as a seemingly harmless farewell party turned into a brutal street bloodbath in Debrecen. A conflict between Mongolian guest workers escalated so dramatically that one man nearly lost his life after being slashed several times across the neck and face with a knife. The Debrecen stabbing case has now taken another shocking turn: while the alleged attacker remains in custody awaiting trial, an arrest warrant has also been issued for the victim.
Alcohol, tension and explosive tempers
The violent incident took place last January in a flat near Füredi Road in Debrecen, according to Blikk’s report. The group had gathered to say goodbye to one of their friends, who was preparing to return home to Mongolia. According to reports, the evening began peacefully enough, but large amounts of alcohol quickly poisoned the atmosphere. Beer and whisky fuelled rising tensions, and two men in particular became increasingly aggressive towards one another.
Those involved in the Debrecen stabbing initially exchanged only heated words, but the confrontation later spilled out onto the street and turned physical. Witnesses said the two men began wrestling and punching each other before falling to the ground. At that point, the others present managed to separate them, and for a brief moment it appeared the fight was over.
The attacker returned with a knife
However, the situation soon took a horrifying turn. One of the men walked over to a nearby parked car and retrieved a large knife from the boot. Witnesses recalled that he slowly made his way back towards the other man, while everyone around sensed that something terrible was about to happen.
During the Debrecen stabbing, the attacker once again clashed with his opponent and, amid the struggle, slashed him twice across the neck and face. The wounds were so severe that part of the knife blade reportedly snapped off during the assault. The victim suffered permanent injuries, and the scars running across his throat and face will remain with him for the rest of his life.
People at the scene intervened once more, preventing an even greater tragedy. The heavily bleeding victim was rushed to hospital by ambulance, where doctors provided life-saving treatment.
Shocking twist
The case took an unexpected twist when authorities revealed that not only the attacker, but also the injured man, Batdorj Bayarsambuu, is facing legal action. Police issued an arrest warrant against him on charges of disorderly conduct, claiming he also actively participated in the violent altercation.

The primary suspect in the Debrecen stabbing has been charged with attempted murder and drink-driving. He is currently being held in pre-trial detention while awaiting court proceedings. Meanwhile, the injured man is believed to have already left Hungary and returned to Mongolia.
Legal experts speaking to the Hungarian press said this would not necessarily prevent the case from proceeding, as the trial could still be conducted in his absence. In addition, Hungary and Mongolia have an extradition agreement in place, meaning authorities could request his transfer if necessary.

Permanent scars from a brutal attack
The incident is shocking not only from a legal perspective but also on a human level. Looking at the deep wounds left across the victim’s neck, it is easy to see how narrowly the situation avoided becoming a fatal tragedy. The Debrecen stabbing has once again highlighted the dangerous consequences that can arise when alcohol, rage and violence combine.
Residents living nearby say such brutality is rare in the city, which is why the bloody incident has deeply shaken the local community. The upcoming court proceedings are expected to attract major public attention, especially as prosecutors claim the attack came dangerously close to ending in murder.
