Miskolc is set to gain a direct rail connection to Munich this winter, with Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) planning to introduce daily Railjet services between the two cities from 13 December 2026. The new route will also serve Vienna and Budapest.
According to information published by ÖBB on Wednesday, the new connection is part of the railway operator’s timetable change for December. As reported by the Facebook page PTF – Public Transport Fan, the direct service has already appeared in the timetable search, although the final schedule could still change before its launch.
The new service will give passengers in north-eastern Hungary a direct train connection to the Bavarian capital without needing to change trains along the way.
When will the trains depart?
The timetable currently lists the following departure times for the service, although these are subject to change.
- Munich to Miskolc: Railjet service RJX 67 is scheduled to leave Munich Central Station at 1.28 PM and arrive at Miskolc-Tiszai railway station at 10.51 PM.
- Miskolc to Munich: The first train in the opposite direction is scheduled to depart Miskolc at 7.03 AM on 14 December, arriving in Munich at 4.34 PM.
The new service is expected to operate daily in both directions, adding a further international rail option for travellers between Hungary, Austria and Germany.

- Tatabánya
- Budapest-Kelenföld
- Budapest-Keleti
- Hatvan

A new international rail option for Miskolc
The connection would provide Miskolc, one of Hungary’s largest cities, with a direct Railjet link to Munich, potentially making international travel more convenient for residents, students and visitors.
Railjet trains are ÖBB’s long-distance services connecting major cities in Austria and neighbouring countries. The new route would extend the network further into north-eastern Hungary.
However, passengers should check the official timetable before planning their journeys, as departure times and stops may change before the new service launches on 13 December 2026.
