Hungarian international and Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has added another prestigious accolade to his growing collection after being voted the club’s Player of the Season by supporters in a remarkably one-sided poll.

Voting shows the Hungarian star enjoys supporters’ backing

The fan vote, organised by Liverpool-focused outlet Rousing The Kop, featured eight nominees, including Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, Hungarian defender Milos Kerkez, Florian Wirtz, Rio Ngumoha and Hugo Ekitike.

After progressing to the final round alongside Ekitike, Szoboszlai secured an overwhelming 96 per cent of the vote, leaving little doubt about supporters’ choice for Liverpool’s standout performer of the 2025–26 campaign.

Dominik Szoboszlai was a bright spot in a disappointing season

Liverpool endured a difficult season that fell well below expectations, but Szoboszlai’s performances consistently earned praise from both fans and pundits. Many observers argued that the Hungarian captain was the driving force behind the team’s push for a top-five finish and qualification for the UEFA Champions League.

The Reds eventually secured fifth place on the final day of the season with a 1-1 draw against Brentford FC. According to several assessments, Liverpool’s Champions League hopes could have been in serious jeopardy without Szoboszlai’s influence in midfield, writes Blikk.

Recognition from teammates and media

The supporters’ award comes shortly after Szoboszlai was also voted Liverpool’s player of the season by his teammates, underlining the trust he gets within the dressing room.

English media outlets rated his final-day performance highly, with only Salah receiving better average marks. Season-long assessments also highlighted Szoboszlai’s creativity, tireless work rate and ability to orchestrate Liverpool’s attacks during the closing stages of the campaign.

While his shooting was not always at its most effective, analysts widely agreed that his contribution in possession and relentless effort made him Liverpool’s most influential player throughout a challenging season.
