Fidesz demands probe into Migration Aid staff’s alleged criminal record
Budapest (MTI) – The ruling Fidesz party demands an answer from Migration Aid, a charity helping migrants in Hungary, on whether a man associated with the charity had a criminal record, the party’s spokesman Janos Halasz said on Monday.
Citing a report by the online tabloid Ripost published on Monday, Halasz said Csaba Toth, alias Baba, who allegedly had been in a top position at Migration Aid, one of the largest migrant charities, was a repeat offender. The report also claimed that Migration Aid was linked to George Soros, the Hungarian-born US billionaire, Halasz told a press conference. Fidesz demands an investigation from Migration Aid, as the case “has grave risks in terms of national security,” he said, adding that Fidesz also wanted to know “whether Soros’s Foundation had knowledge of this”.
Halasz declined to take questions after the press conference. Attending the event in the audience Zsuzsanna Zsohar, former spokeswoman for Migration Aid, however said that “Csaba Toth alias Baba does not represent our organisation (Migration Aid). (…) Baba has not worked with us for a long time,” she said, adding that Migration Aid had no links with George Soros.
