Fidesz moves to make damaging border fence criminal offence, says Rogan

Budapest (MTI) – The ruling Fidesz party group is submitting a proposal to parliament to make damaging the fence on the Hungarian-Serbian border a criminal offence, group leader Antal Rogan said on Friday.

The proposal will be submitted in September with a request to be fast-tracked. If approved, then vandalising the fence could result in a prison sentence, Rogan said.

Anyone who damages the temporary barricade must be prosecuted — the fence is the property of the Hungarian state, he added.

“It is not enough that illegal migrants are breaking the law by crossing over the border but they are damaging the property of the Hungarian state too,” he said.
