The first free Hungarian language course for native Ukrainian speakers was a success
This year, more than 600 Ukrainian children spent part of their summer holiday at lake Velence as guests of the Hungarian government.
The first phase of the free Hungarian language course for native Ukrainian speakers sponsored by the Hungarian government has been ended and without doubt, it was a resounding success. More than a thousand students received their certificates on completion of the course in Beregszász on Saturday.
Government Commissioner Responsible for Development of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county and Transcarpathia region István Grezsa also attended the certificate ceremony, which was held in “II. Rákóczi Ferenc” Collage. The government commissioner said interest in the free Hungarian language course exceeded all expectations.
Organizers expected about 500 people to sign up for the half-year language program, but for the surprise of everyone, more than two thousand people registered, which shows how popular the language course among native Ukrainian speakers said the commissioner.
The Hungarian language immersion program started in May at 52 locations; students were organized into 140 groups and so far, more than 1187 of them successfully passed the oral and written exams.
The government commissioner announced that due to the popularity of the initiative, the free language education program in Transcarpathia will continue. Registrations for the next year’s program began a week ago; so far, more than 3,500 students signed up for the course.
