Hungarian Army’s former chief of staff under probe after joining Orbán’s main challenger, Péter Magyar
Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky has ordered an internal probe into the international activities of Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi, the former chief of staff, the defence ministry said on Thursday.
According to the ministry’s statement, remarks recently made by the former officer “raise suspicion that he did not promote the Hungarian government’s position at official NATO meetings regarding the Russian-Ukrainian war.”
The probe aims to ascertain whether the former chief of staff “acted in meetings in line with his mandate and as described in his subsequent reports”. The ministry will share its findings with parliament’s national security committee, the statement said.
