A 25-year-old man, Gábor Fördős, was killed by just two punches delivered by 28-year-old László A. outside the popular city-centre nightclub Morrison’s 2. With the family’s consent, video footage of the tragedy has now been released, though it is recommended only for readers of strong constitution.
Little is known about what led to the tragedy
The fatal assault took place last November, just weeks before Christmas, yet the precise cause of the murder remains unclear. According to the father of the suspect—an ethnic Hungarian from Transylvania working as a bricklayer in Budapest—László lost both his mother and stepfather in a previous accident. He speculated that the incident may have been triggered by an insult directed at his mother.
This account remains unsubstantiated, as does László A.’s own claim that he acted in self-defence, alleging that Gábor had intended to attack him. He stated that the victim took offence after he made a joke about a young woman who had twisted her ankle; she is seen in the footage surrounded by bystanders offering assistance. Gábor also helps, before walking towards László A. with his hands behind his back, seemingly signalling that he had no wish for confrontation. What passed between them verbally is unknown, and the two men were not previously acquainted.

Two punches prove fatal in Budapest city centre
As soon as Gábor comes to a halt in front of him, László A. strikes without warning. The first blow—a powerful left hook—causes the victim to lose his balance and stagger. Though severe, it is not immediately fatal; Gábor remains conscious, and events unfold so rapidly that no one intervenes in time.

The second blow proves decisive. Experts suggest that the young man’s head snaps back at such an angle that a major artery in the neck ruptures—a so-called “whiplash” strike. Although paramedics managed to transport him to the hospital, his life cannot be saved.

Gábor’s father has said he is unable to comprehend what happened, insisting his son meant no harm—something he believes is evident from the footage. He intends to attend the trial and look the accused in the eye, seeking an answer as to why his son had to die so young in the heart of Budapest.
According to the victim’s lawyer, who spoke to RTL News, the charges against László A. may yet be upgraded. Prosecutors could pursue a charge of premeditated murder carried out with particular cruelty, an offence that carries the possibility of a life sentence. The tragedy extends beyond the victim’s family, affecting the accused’s own relatives, including his fiancée and young son.
