Hungary to guest workers: “Where everyone can find a home if they choose us as their home.”

Hungary is a sovereign country, not part of an empire, and preserving the Hungarian national identity is one of the most important tasks, also in view of future generations, Gergely Gulyás, the head of the Prime Minister’s Office said on Friday. Hungarian government message to guest workers:
Gulyás told an event marking the August 20 national holiday which commemorates the foundation of the Hungarian state that the holiday served a good opportunity to take account of perspectives, achievements and tasks, considering also that “we can talk about a thousand-year perspective”.
“A thousand year-old state which is an alliance between Hungarians of the past, present and future has been holding us and connecting us with each other for as long as 1,025 years,” he added. “The thousand-year survival in itself demonstrates the success of Saint Stephen’s state,” he said.

Saint Stephen founded a state “where everyone could find their home if they chose us for a home”, a country that gained its power from the Christian belief, and has been therefore a part of European culture, he said. He added that it was a country that had always tried to protect its citizens, and only in the worst periods had it not been able to do so.
