Budapest’s House of Music earns European praise for revolutionising the museum experience

The House of Music Hungary (HoM) received a special commendation at the European Museum of the Year (EMYA) gala in Białystok, in Poland, HoM said in a statement on Tuesday.

The jury praised the museum’s innovative, visitor-friendly approach, the statement said. EMYA is one of the most prestigious awards for museums, handed every year to institutions “successfully transforming the museum experience through an innovative spirit, social commitment and exemplary operation”, the statement said, adding that the House of Music had become a focus of the domestic and international public along those principles.

The jury praised the House of Music as a “unique blend of experience-based learning, contemporary architecture and interactive solutions in shows, and has become a true community space. The institute also sets an example to other European institutions in using modern methods to make music culture accessible to everyone, regardless of social standing…” it said.

At the conference held between 21 and 25 May, all 42 nominees introduced themselves and shared their experiences, professional philosophy and results, the statement said.
