Hungarian Catholics vow to follow Pope’s call to shelter refugees
Budapest, September 7 (MTI) – The Hungarian Catholic Bishops’ Conference (MKPK) said on Monday that it is “happy” to follow Pope Francis’ call for members of the Catholic faith worldwide to shelter and aid refugees.
In a letter signed by Cardinal Peter Erdo, Archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest and recently-elected president of MKPK Andras Veres, diocesan bishop of Szombathely, MKPK thanked the Pope for his Sunday message on aiding refugees and for “pointing out the right way of action”.
“We are ready and happy to answer his call on sheltering and aiding refugees. His words have given us strength and encouragement in the work we have started,” MKPK said.
MKPK’s press office said it is already weighing its options on what it can do to “follow the Holy Father’s intentions and guidance”.
On Sunday Pope Francis called on every European parish and religious community to take in one migrant family each as a gesture of solidarity.
