Telex writes that Germany has chosen Hungarian-born sibling duo Abor and Tynna to represent the country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel. The pair, whose real names are Attila and Tünde Bornemisza, secured their spot after winning the national selection competition Wer singt für Deutschland? with their song Baller. The final was a tight race, with Abor and Tynna earning 34.9% of the audience vote, edging out TikTok sensation Lyza, who garnered 31.1%. Their track blends pop, hip-hop, and electronic elements, telling the story of a breakup. A standout moment in their performance saw Tynna smashing her brother’s cello on stage, as suggested by jury president Stefan Raab to enhance the spectacle.
The duo’s background
Abor and Tynna come from a musical Viennese-Hungarian family, with their father, Csaba Bornemisza, playing cello for the Vienna Philharmonic. While both siblings were classically trained, they later transitioned to electronic music, releasing their first song together in 2016. They recently supported Nina Chuba on tour, and their debut album Bittersüß dropped in February 2025. Baller also marks a historic moment for Germany at Eurovision, as it will be the first German-language entry since Roger Cicero’s Frauen regier’n die Welt in 2007. Initially, the duo had planned an English-language song but opted for Baller on Raab’s recommendation. Meanwhile, Hungary remains absent from the contest since 2019.
