Tragedy on the pitch: 18-year-old Hungarian footballer dies after 50-minute wait for ambulance

The 18-year-old footballer, Máté Bence Kiss, of Cigánd’s U19 team suffered a horrible collision with his goalkeeper. He waited 50 minutes for the ambulance, and despite the professional medical help and treatment he received in the hospital, he died of internal injuries. The entire community is now grieving and has initiated a charity donation campaign for his family.

According to Blikk, a Hungarian tabloid, the fatal collision happened in the 35th minute of the match in Felsőzsolca. Kiss collided with his team’s goalkeeper, and an ambulance was called immediately. However, help arrived only 50 minutes later. He was rushed to the hospital, where it became clear that he had suffered internal injuries. He underwent surgery, but despite all professional medical help, the doctors could not save his life. He died on Wednesday.

Felsőzsolca is mourning; they postponed the football team’s year-end celebration and initiated a charity donation campaign for the family of the young footballer.

According to Blikk, Máté Bence was a good student who graduated this May. He was born in Pátroha, became a footballer there and signed with Cigánd U19 later.

“A life full of plans and hopes ended”, a Pátroha social media forum bid farewell to him.
