Is this the start of the 2026 general election campaign? Hungarian pensioners to get food vouchers

Hungarian pensioners will each get HUF 30,000 of food vouchers by the autumn, Róbert Zsigó, a state secretary at the Culture and Innovation Ministry, said in a video message on social media on Monday.
Zsigó said pensioners would get special assistance as the government takes steps to address “unjustified” price increases with measures such as a mandatory cap on markups on a range of food products. The decision to give food vouchers to pensioners was taken based on feedback from seniors, he added. Draft legislation on the measure will soon be submitted to parliament.
Another key topic for the 2026 parliamentary elections in Hungary: Ukraine’s EU accession
Despite the propaganda and the signature drive of the opposition Tisza Party, the proportion of Hungarians rejecting Ukraine’s EU integration has increased to 67 percent from 62 percent, the government-close Nézőpont research institute said on Monday. The number of those opposing Ukraine’s EU membership has gone up by more than 300,000 which reflects that a total of 5.2 million Hungarians are against the planned accession, the institute said. At the same time, support for Ukraine’s accession has gone down from 29 percent to 23 percent, Nézőpont said citing the results of its survey conducted between April 14-15 and May 19-21 by phone on a sample of 1,000, respectively.
