Hungarian police unit departs to help patrol Serbian-Bulgarian border
Budapest, October 24 (MTI) – A new contingent of 20 Hungarian police officers left for Serbia on Monday to help their local colleagues patrol the country’s border with Bulgaria.
“Today it is considered natural that the central European and Balkan states cooperate in patrolling the Balkan route,” police chief Károly Papp told a press conference. Hungary has assisted multiple countries in their border protection efforts since 2015, including Serbia, Slovenia, Macedonia, Bulgaria and Greece, he noted.
Hungary has apprehended a total of 18,028 illegal entrants who had entered through the country’s Schengen borders so far this year, Papp said, adding that 97 percent of them had entered Hungary from Serbia.
