With temperatures rising and schools preparing for the summer break, Hungary’s beach season is officially getting underway. Holidaymakers heading to Lake Balaton, the Tisza Lake region or one of the country’s popular inland bathing spots will find plenty of options this year, but prices vary more than ever.

According to the latest figures, adult day-ticket prices at paid beaches around Lake Balaton range from as little as HUF 800 (EUR 2.25) to as much as HUF 10,000 (EUR 28), which shows the growing differences between budget-friendly and premium destinations.

Balaton faces growing competition from foreign holidays

A recent survey found that 47% of Hungarians are planning a foreign holiday this year, up from 36% a year earlier. While domestic tourism remains strong, with 65% of respondents also considering trips within Hungary, the cost of a Balaton holiday has become an important factor for many families.

The strengthening of the forint against the euro could make some foreign destinations more attractive this summer, putting additional pressure on Hungary’s most famous holiday region to remain competitive.

Nevertheless, Lake Balaton is still the country’s premier summer destination, attracting millions of visitors every year with its beaches, sailing opportunities, family-friendly attractions and vibrant lakeside towns.

Newly reopened water park offers HUF 500 entry

Visitors looking for a bargain may want to head to Szolnok, where the renovated Tiszaliget Adventure Bath is launching a special test operation period.

Between 8 and 18 June, guests can enter the facility for just HUF 500 (EUR 1.4), provided they register in advance, according to Szoljon. The heavily discounted price reflects the fact that the attraction is still undergoing final technical testing before its official opening.

The facility will operate daily from 9 AM to 7 PM during the test period. Waterslides will begin operating from noon, while saunas will remain available until midday. Visitors should note that only snacks and drinks will be available during the testing phase, as restaurants and larger catering facilities have not yet opened.

A summer for every budget

Despite concerns over rising holiday costs, Hungary’s beach season still offers options for almost every budget. From HUF 800 lakeside beaches in Tihany to premium beach-club experiences costing HUF 10,000, visitors can choose between affordable family outings and luxury waterfront relaxation.
