The popular Helikon Beach on the shores of Lake Balaton has reopened in Keszthely, a week after it was shut. The town council said on Wednesday morning that the water quality was once again excellent and that the free beach had been reopened.
Lake Balaton beach reopened with sports facilities, playground for families
The temporary bathing ban was ordered last Wednesday by the public health department of the Zala County government office after the latest sample taken during routine water-quality checks produced an unfavourable result, MTI wrote.
The beach itself has also undergone an important change this season: since 1 May, Helikon has been operating as a free public beach, with no admission charge. Covering roughly 19,000 square metres, it offers generous green space and shady trees, making it an attractive option for visitors who do not want to pay for a day by the lake.
It is not just for swimming. Visitors can also make use of volleyball courts, a ping-pong table and a mini football pitch, while families are catered for with a playground, a mother-and-baby room and a children’s toilet. Showers, rentable changing cabins and various beach accessories are also available, making Helikon a comfortable choice for those planning to spend longer by Lake Balaton.
