Hungary guest nights up 9.5pc in July
Budapest, September 10 (MTI) – Guest nights in Hungary rose by 9.5 percent to 3,943,000 in July from the same month a year earlier, a release by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) on Thursday shows.
Guest nights spent by Hungarians increased by 7.5 percent to 2,189,000 and nights spent by foreign guests were up by 12.1 percent at 1,755,000.
Revenue of commercial accommodations reached 43.3 billion forints (EUR 138m), up 17.6 percent from the same month a year earlier.
Occupancy rates at hotels averaged 66.7 percent, up 4.7 percentage points from July of last year.
Economy ministry state secretary Bela Glattfelder welcomed the figures, suggesting that tourism would hit a new record in Hungary this year.
Tourism accounts for 10 percent of GDP and expands more rapidly than the economy as a whole, Glattfelder told public news channel M1 on Thursday.
The state secretary noted that the largest number of tourists still arrived from Germany. In July Hungary received 15 percent more German tourists than a year before. Simultaneously, the number of British and US tourists grew by over 20 percent.
