Check out Hungary’s brand new spa!
Hungary has a new spa! The news was not widely reported, but the Szentes Spa has lately been added to the Hungarian register of spas. The town in Csongrád-Csanád county has the title for its spa and its surroundings.
A slow process towards the end of a spa in Szentes
In Szentes, the hospital suggested in 2016 that the settlement could also be a health resort. So the process was not a quick one, it took 6 years, reports termalonline.hu.
A spa designation can be initiated by a municipality where a natural healing factor is found. In most cases, this is usually a spa. But it can also be a climatically special place, such as a spa cave.
The process to obtaining a spa is a rigorous and slow one. The competent authority will check the existence of a health facility background. They also check the infrastructure of the area, air purity and noise pollution. It is also a time-consuming process to obtain a number of related expert opinions.

Szentes is the 40th health resort
Szentes has become Hungary’s 40th health resort. The country has 40 spas in 39 municipalities. Sárvár also has two spas. The spa and the surrounding arboretum have also been awarded the title.
Between 2012 and 2018, several new spas were opened in Hungary. At that time, an EU tender was launched, for which only spas were eligible. During this period, 25 places were awarded the title of spa. The first to receive the title was Miskolc-Lillafüred. After 2012, there has been a decline. Then, in 2021 Tamási and in 2022 Szentes were awarded the special title, writes sokszinuvidek.24.hu.
