Hungary helped over 3,000 people return home from Ukraine last week
Hungary helped 3,077 third-country citizens fleeing Ukraine return to their homeland over the past seven days, with 19 special planes involved in the operation, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said on Facebook on Saturday.
The biggest group was constituted by the 2,067 Indian nationals, he said, adding that altogether 5,615 Indians had been evacuated from Ukraine.
Over the past few days altogether 306 Nigerian, 227 Chinese, 217 Moroccan, 160 United Arab Emirates, 54 Egyptian and 46 Israeli citizens transited Hungary this way, Szijjártó said.
Since the war broke out, Hungarian diplomats have helped 8,115 citizens of 12 countries return to their homeland with 48 special flights, he said.
Most recently Hungary and Egypt agreed to help Ukrainian citizens stranded in Egypt return to Ukraine via Hungary. Over 10,000 Ukrainian tourists are said to be waiting for the opportunity, the minister said.
To date, 3,828 Ukrainian citizens have left Egypt for Hungary on special planes to be closer to their homeland, Szijjártó said.
