Hungary offers to send troops to Baltics
Budapest, September 2 (MTI) – Hungary is to make offers of military aid at the upcoming NATO summit in Wales in connection with the conflict in Ukraine, including sending troops to the Baltic states, the daily Magyar Nemzet said today.
Hugnary will also propose upgrading the airbase at Papa as well as increasing its own military spending, the paper said, citing unnamed sources.
On his Twitter page, the foreign minister, Tibor Navracsics, wrote today: “Hungarian troops to the Baltic states and increasing defence budget,” and provided a link to the Magyar Nemzet article.
The paper wrote that Hungary would send one hundred soldiers to the Baltics as part of a NATO military exercise to bolster the region’s defence to counter any potential Russian action.
Further, the government has proposed developing the Papa NATO airbase as part of an action plan approved by the alliance’s foreign ministers in June, it added.
