After days of gloomy skies and persistent rain, Hungary is set to enjoy a big change in weather conditions this week, with sunshine and steadily rising temperatures expected across the country. Forecasts suggest that by the Pentecost long weekend, temperatures could climb as high as 27°C, bringing the first truly summer-like days of the season.
Rainy start to the week as Mediterranean cyclone moves away
According to the weather reports of Időkép and HungaroMet, a Mediterranean cyclone continues to influence Hungary’s weather on Sunday and into Monday. Cloudy conditions and scattered rain showers are still expected in several parts of the country, especially in the eastern and northeastern regions.
However, meteorologists say the cyclone will gradually move northeastward from Monday onwards, allowing drier and sunnier conditions to spread across Hungary. Western regions are expected to see clearer skies first, while rain and occasional thunderstorms may linger longer in the east.
Temperatures on Monday are forecast to range between 17°C and 23°C, although cooler conditions may persist in areas where cloud cover remains heavier.
Sunshine to return from midweek
From Tuesday onward, the outlook becomes significantly more pleasant. Morning mist and fog patches are expected to clear quickly, making way for long sunny spells accompanied by scattered cumulus and high clouds.
Although isolated showers or thunderstorms may still develop locally — mainly in northeastern and southwestern Hungary — most of the country can expect increasingly stable and warm weather.
Daytime highs are forecast to gradually rise throughout the week:
- Tuesday: 18–23°C
- Wednesday: 20–25°C
- Thursday: 21–26°C
- Friday: 20–26°C
Night-time temperatures will also become milder, generally staying between 6°C and 15°C.
Windy but increasingly warm conditions
While sunshine will dominate much of the week, forecasters note that northerly and northwesterly winds may strengthen again from Thursday onwards. Some regions could experience strong gusts, especially during thunderstorms.
Despite the windier conditions, the overall trend points firmly towards warmer and more comfortable weather, with many areas expected to surpass 25°C by the end of the week.

Summer atmosphere expected for the Pentecost weekend
The upcoming Pentecost weekend could bring the best weather Hungary has seen in weeks. Forecasts currently indicate plenty of sunshine on both Saturday and Pentecost Sunday, although scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms cannot be ruled out entirely.
Maximum temperatures are expected to range between 21°C and 27°C during the long weekend, creating ideal conditions for outdoor programmes, travel, and early summer activities across Hungary.
Meteorologists caution, however, that localised storms may still develop in some regions due to stronger cloud formation during the afternoons.
