Budapest, September 29 (MTI) – The Kazakh embassy, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the International Turkic Academy organised an international conference in Budapest on Tuesday to mark the 550th anniversary of the formation of the Kazakh Khanate.

The conference was opened by Kazakh Ambassador Nurbah Rustemov, Zsolt Csutora, deputy state secretary for the foreign ministry, Duisen Kaseinov, the General Secretary of the International Organization of Turkic Culture and Darhan Kidirali, President of the Turkic Academy.

Csutora noted that the Hungarian government launched its eastern opening strategy in 2011 with the aim of boosting economic ties with non-EU member states, which has led to Kazakhstan becoming one of Hungary’s most important strategic partners in central Asia. Bilateral trade turnover amounted to more than 200 million US dollars in 2014, he added.

The deputy state secretary said there are currently 50 Kazakh-Hungarian-owned companies operating in Kazakhstan, adding that the Astana World Expo in 2017 is set to further boost bilateral economic ties, particularly in the field of tourism.

Ambassador Rustemov said Kazakhstan is one of the fastest-growing economies in central Asia.

The conference demonstrated the high level of interest Hungarian academics have in the history of Kazakh statehood, the Kazakh embassy said.
