PHOTOS: Kyrgyz museum opens show on Almásy expedition

The Kyrgyz Museum of National History in Bishkek opened an exhibition on the 1906 expedition of György Almásy, a Hungarian traveller, ethnographer and zoologist, to the Tian Shan mountains, the Hungarian Museum of Ethnography, a co-organiser, said on Wednesday.
Almásy (1867-1933) visited the region now belonging to Kyrgyzstan twice, in 1900 and 1906, on collecting and hunting expeditions, and to study Kyrgyz culture, which he saw as a possible example to get to know the way of living of ancient Hungarians, the statement said.

The Hungarian Museum of Ethnography is now owner of more than 100 objects collected from Kyrgyz nomads during that expedition, and nearly 700 photographs. The exhibition will run through May 13, it said.
