Budapest, November 12 (MTI) – The government is ready and willing to seal the border between Hungary and Romania quickly if necessary, the government office chief said on Thursday.
Janos Lazar told a weekly press briefing that Austria and Slovenia were already building border fences and there was a chance that illegal migrants in Serbia would change their route and travel in the direction of the Hungary-Romania border. The Hungarian government has a contingency plan for protecting the border, Lazar said. At the same time, he added that building a fence on the Hungary-Romania border will be only a last resort.
He reiterated that Hungary will not take back any migrants expelled from western Europe.
“Our interest lies with stopping migration and not with organising it,” he said.
