Ensuring physical and digital accessibility “is my pet project”, the minister of social and family affairs said on Facebook on Sunday, after receiving visually impaired guests from south-eastern Hungary’s Békés county at his ministry.
In his post, the minister slammed the previous government by saying that people living with a handicap “were not in the focus” in the past 16 years.
“Accessibility and equal opportunities were strongly suppressed; we were paternalised and told what was good for us,” the minister, who is visually impaired himself, said. He added he would work to change those attitudes and asked civil organisations to signal problems.
Meanwhile, Kátai-Németh said it was crucial to provide jobs for the handicapped.
