MSZP: Socialist government would correct inefficiencies of childcare extra, if elected
(MTI) – The Socialists would keep the childcare benefit extra, but correct its inefficiencies, if elected to government, a member of the party’s presidium, said on Saturday.
Ildiko Bango Borbely said that young mothers and working parents need real opportunities, such as clear rules on eligibility and more nursery places. She added that a government led by PM-candidate Attila Mesterhazy would remedy these problems and also prevent young mothers from losing their jobs when returning from maternity leave.
Fidesz’s press office said in response to the Socialists’ statements that the children of working mothers who receive the childcare benefit extra are eligible for nursery places and parents are protected from losing their jobs when they return to the workforce.
The Socialists, in line with earlier statements by the leader of their women’s chapter, would scrap the childcare benefit extra, the statement said. The “Gyurcsany coalition” would also eliminate the family-friendly tax system and the utility bill cuts, it added.
