A strong soldier and leader

According to CBS, Sgt. Aaron Cox (24) of Mabank, Texas, died during the preparations for an upcoming international military exercise close to Veszprém, near Camp Croft. Cox joined the US Army four years ago, and this was his second deployment after returning from Poland in 2022. “He was an infantryman assigned to the “Strike” 2nd Mobile Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault)”, CBS added. “The loss of Sgt. Cox is a tragedy for all of us on the Strike team,” said Colonel Duke Reim, commander, 2MBCT, 101st Airborne Division.

“He was a strong soldier and leader who quickly rose through the ranks while serving.” Reim did not forget to thank the Hungarian allies for their professional support and assistance to the soldiers involved in the accident. He added that the investigation to clarify the circumstances of the accident was not yet over.

Four American soldiers died in Lithuania in March while trying to repair and tow an immobilised tactical vehicle with a 63-ton M88A2 Hercules armoured recovery vehicle. Their vehicle stood submerged in a peat bog, and it required the assistance of hundreds of officers to recover, drain water and stabilise the ground around it.

International drill with Americans, Hungarians, and Spanish

According to Infostart, Sgt. Cox participated in an international military exercise called Saber Guardian 2025, organised between 6 and 24 June. The exercise is part of the US Army’s Defender25, and one of its key aspects is strengthening US-Hungarian military cooperation. The Hungarian Defence Forces participated with more than 800 servicemen, joined by 1,400 American soldiers.

In practice, even the Spanish Army is participating in the drill with 450 soldiers, strengthening the unity of the NATO allies.

We, the DNH editorial team, are sending our condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones.
