A new upscale lifestyle hotel will soon transform one of central Budapest’s prominent office buildings on Deák Ferenc Square, paying tribute to world-renowned Hungarian-born architect Marcel Breuer.

The 177-room Canopy by Hilton development is being launched by REALIS WAM Asset Management, while operations will be handled by a subsidiary of the Continental Group. The project will convert the former Representation Office Building, originally opened in 1989 and designed by celebrated Hungarian architect József Finta.

Landmark location in the heart of Budapest

The redevelopment, designed by Finta Studio and MádiLáncos Studio, will take advantage of the property’s exceptional location in the city centre. Situated within walking distance of St Stephen’s Basilica and several of Budapest’s major attractions, the hotel is expected to appeal strongly to both leisure and business travellers.

As Portfolio reported, the property will include 70 underground parking spaces and offer panoramic views across some of Budapest’s best-known landmarks, including Andrássy Avenue, Deák Square, Gellért Hill and the Basilica itself.

One of the hotel’s standout features will be its top-floor hospitality and wellness area. Plans include a 240-square-metre rooftop venue featuring a restaurant, terrace, rooftop bar and open-air fitness space overlooking the capital’s skyline.

Tribute to Marcel Breuer

According to the developers, the hotel’s interior design concept will honour the legacy of Marcel Breuer, the Pécs-born Bauhaus architect and designer whose work continues to influence contemporary architecture and furniture design worldwide.

Breuer became internationally famous for combining Bauhaus principles with modernist and brutalist architecture. His iconic furniture pieces, including the Wassily chair and the Cesca chair, remain widely produced today. Among his best-known architectural works is the former Whitney Museum building in New York, which currently houses Sotheby’s headquarters.

The developers say the Breuer-inspired concept aligns closely with the philosophy of the Canopy by Hilton brand, which focuses on design-driven hospitality experiences rooted in local culture, art and gastronomy.

A flagship project for REALIS WAM

REALIS WAM described the hotel as a flagship development reflecting the company’s long-term vision of creating architecturally distinctive and sustainable buildings in prime urban locations.

Founder and CEO Mihály Schrancz said the company aims to deliver projects that not only create financial value but also contribute to the cultural and architectural quality of the built environment. He added that Breuer’s artistic legacy perfectly embodies the mission behind the Budapest hotel project.
