Opera House set to close for 9 month refurbishment
Budapest, November 10 (MTI) – The State Opera House in Budapest plans to close for a nine-month renovation next year, the opera’s director told public television on Tuesday morning.
“Thorough preparations have been made,” Szilveszter Okovacs told M1, adding that a related government decision concerning the iconic building on Andrassy Avenue would be made in January or February next year.
The state opera also puts on productions in its other venue, the recently refurbished Erkel Theatre, and it has also completed a conversion of a former railway warehouse for multiple use, including set building.
