The Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) will introduce this Saturday a new timetable, concerning the South Pest tram network system. The modification will affect some of Budapest’s most beautiful tram lines. The departure and arrival times of tram nr 2, 2M, 2B, 24, 51, and 51A will change, the capital’s transport company highlighted. Below you may read the details.

Tram lines reaching Chain Bridge, Parliament

According to a statement of BKK sent to the Hungarian News Agency, the new timetable will be in effect from 7 January. From Saturday, tram nr 51A will not stop at the Málenkij Robot Emlékhely (Malenki Robot Memorial) station, only at the Koppány Street station. Furthermore, the tram will be in service all day. Meanwhile, tram nr 51 will only circulate in peak hours.

In the downtown sections of Mester Street, more 51A trams will provide service than 51 trams, BKK drew the users’ attention.

If you want to travel from Pesterzsébet to the heart of Budapest (Parliament, Chain Bridge, Jászai Mari Square), you may probably use tram nr 2B. The changes concern that line, too. As a result, the tram’s travel time will decrease by 3-4 minutes. Thus, people will get from the 20th district of Budapest to the 5th district faster.

Travel will be easier for all of the passengers

But how can the BKK reach those goals? They said they would implement new timetables, reduce the time of driver changes and set traffic lights to prefer tram traffic.

BKK added that the changes concern even tram nr 24. In the morning peak hours, for example, the follow-up time of the trams will be 12 minutes. Furthermore, the timetable will be harmonised with the HÉV (Budapest Railway of Local Interest).

Moreover, tram nr 2 will also run more frequently in the morning traffic peak to serve the office buildings located near the Közvágóhíd station better. Furthermore, it will help the passengers travelling with the HÉVs from Csepel (21st district – H7) and Ráckeve (H6).

As a result, in the mornings, the follow-up time of tram nr 2M will be 8 minutes, BKK highlighted in its statement.
