Opposition party pledges annual €816 million for home insulation support

LMP will earmark an annual 300 billion forints (€ 816 million) to insulate residential buildings if it comes to power, the co-leader of the opposition party said at a press conference streamed on Facebook on Saturday.

Máté Kanász-Nagy said the measure would support the renovation of 150,000 homes a year. It would also create tens of thousands of jobs and serve to achieve economic, climate protection and health goals, he added.

Hungary is “in last place” in terms of insulating residential buildings, which is “an especially big problem in the time of runaway energy prices”, he said.

Kanász-Nagy said comprehensive renovations of residential buildings could save 80-90 percent on energy costs, “ensuring reduced utilities fees for Hungarian families in the long term”, while cutting pollution.

Heating with wood is a major source of air pollution in Hungary, he said, adding that about 15,000 people die each year in the country as a result of air pollution.

Earmark? OK, so where is the money coming from planned for this? 318 Billion Forints is not cheap, and thats 2.1 million forints per home just for their first year….In todays prices even, for materials and labour, it will be a very questionable upgrade at extreme expense for the government and then taxpayer. Thats $6400 USD, $8100 CDN, 5600EUR, per home at 2.1Million Forints a home making how much on average a year???

LMP can promise anything since they have no support or chance in April.
A marginal fringe party with some support in Budapest only.

Sounds like a leftist plot to make everyone pay to insulate the homes of others. The thing is its a socialist redistrubution of wealth that someone will have to pay for and there are not enough quality tradesmen to do this type of work know so you will see thousands of “Meisters” spring up overnight that will hang out their shingle to do the work. They will do a very shoddy job and overcharge the government and pocket a lot of unearned money. using polystyrene which is flamable and bad for the environment. If people want their homes insulated they need to not expect a free hand out Rockwool is a better choice, fire resistant and a DIY type product, very easy to install in roofs and timber framed structures..

Another thing, many elderly and poor Hungarians will freeze to death if the government bans heating with wood. I see some of them scrounging wood to heat with now such as old pallets, tree branches along roads and in the forest near my village. My village does provide some firewood to the elderly but certainly not enought to heat a house for an entire winter.

Who is Peter Marki-Zay? Went to Wikipedia and the information found there is very confusing. It says Peter moved to Canada in 2004 but was attending Pazmany Peter Catholic University in Hungary until 2006. The question is did he request refugee status in Canada? There is no record where he lived in Canada or how he was employed. Was Peter on welfare supported by government handouts? He moved to the US, there is no record whether he moved there legally. The only job that he held, shown on Wikipedia, was a door-to-door salesman. Although selling is an honorable occupation, it certainly does not prepare one to run a country.

Does this man speak any foreign languages that will allow him to effectively communicate with foreign leaders? The people of Hungary should not be conned and they should really check into the back ground of Peter.

One does not like to debase someone but it is strange that there is less imperial data on him than Dana Perino’s Hungarian Vizsla.

Marky-Zay is a mystery. Fidesz should spend a few dollars on vetting this guy.
