Hungary’s previous government pledged substantial financial support for BYD’s planned investment in Szeged, a parliamentary state secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said in a video posted on Facebook on Monday.
‘Guest workers and generous subsidies’
György László Velkey stated that, according to documents held by the ministry, the Hungarian state committed more than 70 billion forints in infrastructure support for the area where BYD is set to establish operations. In addition, the government offered significant direct financial assistance to the company, although the precise sum remains a commercial secret.

“I can say, however, that the scale is comparable to the funding provided for the CATL factory in Debrecen,” the state secretary noted, according to MTI.
It also emerged that BYD has been granted permission to bring in around 10,000 guest workers—almost as many as the number of jobs the investment is expected to create, he added.

Talks with BYD leadership
Péter Stumpf, parliamentary state secretary at the Ministry for Rural and Regional Development and MP for the area, said in the same video that residents of Szeged have three key expectations regarding the project.
They expect the company to comply fully with existing legislation—particularly environmental regulations—so as not to endanger public health; to provide well-paid jobs for local residents and Hungarian workers; and to ensure that Szeged benefits from the company’s economic success.
“It appears that Péter Szijjártó, the former minister for foreign affairs and trade, and Fidesz did not represent these interests during the negotiations,” Stumpf said.

Mr Velkey concluded by stressing that the current government would negotiate with the Chinese company—and with all foreign partners—solely with the interests of Szeged’s residents and the Hungarian people in mind.

Former foreign minister joins BYD
Mr Szijjártó recently announced that he would resign his parliamentary seat and join BYD as an international executive responsible for global external relations and the development of new business divisions.

The former minister, who has been attending a world championship event in the United States, described his new contract on Facebook as “the signing of the year”. However, many—even within Fidesz—have reportedly viewed the move as a betrayal at a difficult time for the political community.
Turning point in the polls: Orbán may welcome latest survey — are voters really punishing Péter Magyar?
Personification again, of the former Hungarian Government, under the “Heinous” leadership / Prime Ministership of Victor Mihaly. Orban – selling us out, making us as citizens the “sacrificial lambs” in the Creed of Victor Mihaly. Orban and his “toxic in culture” Fidesz Government of them the philosophy they over the course of (20) twenty years “played out” – being FIRST, the “greasing of there palms” – favours GIVEN – what was in it for THEM.
Back Room, under the Table deals individually focused and NEVER, never, never – firstly what’s BEST for all Hungarians, then what is BEST short & Long term for our country Hungary.
We literally in our millions got SCREWED over – used & abused.
The rightly accused of TREACHERY he will have his time in Court(s) to answer what’s to be THRUST at and upon him – through his blatant ABUSE of us as citizens of Hungary and of our country being the former Minister of Foreign Affairs and of Trade – Szijjarto Peter.
Szijjarto, the blessings of his Demi-god Victor Mihaly. Orban – the individual of his Adulation, to whom he was a “Gofer” and part of the “inner sanctum” of the Victor Mihaly. Orban – Fidesz “Regime”, accepted – and of his unanimous support of the Fidesz Oligarchy.
Szijjarto Peter – “favours of return” to him by BYD – that personify in this individual being one of Total Mistrust.
Szijjarto Peter – must be hounded pursued to ensure that in our Seeking of Justice – our individual right, the right as a country under DEMOCRACY – the name Szijjarto Peter “pays for his crimes” – his treachery, abuse and deceit of us individually and of our country, what he STOLE from us.
Maybe – in time, sooner than later hopefully the name Szijjarto Peter with his Wife and children are made under Judgement of Law, to surrender there Hungarian Passports, that we see returned to us what was personally stolen from us Hungary, and what Szijjarto Peter “handed off” to his immediate family, that increased there wealth and quality of life position – see it confiscated and returned to us.
Szijjarto Peter must see him wife & children = EXPELLED – to leave = Hungary.
That’s a wish of Justice.
I think if I meet the two guys in the photo today, I’ll just go the other direction.
The former minister Szijjártó described his new contract on Facebook as “the contract signing of the year.” I see the contract terms and Szijjártó’s personal move to BYD as a betrayal of Hungarian workers and Hungarian taxpayers. Let’s see what BYD pays its guest workers from Southeast Asia and its Chinese executives; then perhaps it won’t be so surprising to anyone that BYD cars are so cheap.
This gives the move of former Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó a very bad taste! It seems that Péter Szijjártó, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Fidesz did not represent Hungary’s interests during the negotiations!
Szijjarto as foreign minister negotiated an extradition treaty with China in which Hungary will extradite to China but China will not extradite to Hungary. Traitor Szijjarto shreds everything in his office and then signs on with BYD with his bags packed ready to go to China.
Just kidding. Still you have to wonder if he’s planning to leave.
If the investment brings 10,000 jobs, and they all go to “guest workers”, what is the benefit to Hungary?
