According to the Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister, the way migrants are arriving in Europe shows patterns of organisation. Asylum-seekers are primarily coordinated by people smugglers and other groups, György Bakondi said on the Wednesday evening programme of the public service television news channel M1.
The Chief Advisor took the view that, with the implementation of the technical and legal border closure, the loopholes – which had previously caused „a permanent leakage” – have been closed on the Hungarian-Serbian border, and migrants are therefore opting for different directions.
He added: it has been perceivable already as of January this year that the sea route between Libya and Italy has become more important, and migrants in increasingly large numbers have opted for this route. We may also observe, he said, that migrants are seeking new routes in response to the various measures adopted by the EU and the nation states, and in consequence, their numbers fluctuate as well.
