Fidesz MP János Pócs on Wednesday accused Márton Magyar, the Prime Minister’s brother, of bribing the “key witness” in the Szőlő Street case, speaking at a press conference in Budapest.

Fabricated falsehoods for money

According to the politician, Márton Magyar—brother of Péter Magyar and associated with the Tisza Party and the organisation Kontroll—not only fabricated falsehoods but also paid for them.

Mr Pócs claimed that in the Szőlő Street case, witness Sándor Bangó falsely accused a well-known politician of what he described as the most despicable form of “political allegation”, namely paedophilia, and that Márton Magyar paid him four million forints to do so. He added that the liberal-left press had entirely failed to report on the matter.

He said it was reasonable to expect Prime Minister Péter Magyar and Márton Magyar, founder of Kontroll, to issue an apology for misleading the public.

Audio recording emerged

Kontroll, he continued, had been established to advance the interests of the Tisza Party and secure Péter Magyar’s victory; however, since the election, facts have steadily emerged which, he argued, demonstrate that Fidesz was falsely accused during the campaign.

Mr Pócs further asserted that the liberal-left media had built its strategy on the “false testimony” of a minor serving a sentence. He added that the alleged victim, referred to as “Sanyika”, had himself admitted in an audio recording that he worked as a male escort.

The former director of the Szőlő Street reformatory, Péter Pál Juhász, has been taken into custody on suspicion of sexual coercion and assault, and remains under arrest. During the investigation, a man referred to as “Uncle Zsolti” emerged, though his identity has not been made public.

Mr Pócs published a video on the case on his YouTube channel on Tuesday.

Not his voice?

In response to the allegations, Márton Magyar said he would file a criminal complaint on grounds of defamation and the publication of false audio or visual material capable of damaging his reputation.

“Sándor Bangó received no payment, neither from me nor from anyone else, in exchange for the Kontroll interview, and I neither knew at the time nor have any knowledge now that he lied in the interview regarding the surname of ‘Uncle Zsolti’,” he said.

Sándor Bangó also reported the matter to the police and stated that the voice heard on the recording published by Mr Pócs was not his. He added that he would undergo a lie detector test on 9 July, when he would clarify who ‘Uncle Zsolti’ was. He previously said the individual was a political figure whose face he recognised after switching on the lights following a sexual encounter at the Szőlő Street youth detention centre.
