The Festival of Hungarian Motion Pictures will feature some 100 titles, premiers, roundtable discussions and meet-the-audience events in Veszprém, this year’s European Capital of Culture (EKF), and two other towns in western Hungary from June 7 to 10, the organisers said on Thursday.
The festival’s events will contribute to the implementation of the EKF season’s goal to turn Veszprém’s region into a hub of the cultural and creative industries, Tibor Navracsics, the regional development minister, told a press conference. “The festival is an excellent tool for community building as it gives filmmakers, cinema lovers and those interested in the industry an opportunity to meet,” he said.
Csaba Káel, Government Commissioner for the development of the Hungarian motion picture industry, told the press conference that the festival will show a rich selection of the latest new Hungarian films. Attila Csáky, the festival’s director, said the event will open with the screening of the fresh release documentary about the Olympic legendary Hungarian men’s water-polo team. In the festival competition, awards will be granted in seven categories. The head of the jury is renowned director Lajos Koltai.
