Police officers revived a man in Nagydorog, southern Hungary, after he failed to stop when signalled to do so and crashed while attempting to flee, the Tolna County Police Headquarters said on the police website on Wednesday.
According to the report, officers in Nagydorog spotted the driver during a routine check on Tuesday afternoon. He was not wearing a seat belt. When they attempted to stop him, the driver suddenly accelerated and drove off towards Pusztahencse.
The 36-year-old man was driving at high speed and violating traffic regulations, putting several other road users at risk. He narrowly avoided hitting a cyclist. At one bend, he lost control of the vehicle, which skidded off the road and eventually came to a stop on a grassy area.
The driver and his passenger were injured, so the officers called an ambulance. Before the ambulance arrived, however, the man suddenly collapsed, lost consciousness and stopped breathing.
The officers immediately began CPR
The officers immediately began resuscitation. Thanks to chest compressions, the man began breathing again within a short time.
When the injured man’s condition deteriorated, two police officers from Paks, who had arrived at the scene in the meantime, continued the life-saving intervention until the ambulance arrived. The man was taken to hospital by air ambulance in a stable condition and, according to police, his condition has since improved.
It later emerged that the driver was apparently under the influence of alcohol, had never held a driving licence, was not wearing a seat belt, and the vehicle’s registration had expired several months earlier.
The Paks Police Department has launched proceedings against the man over the traffic offences and criminal acts committed while he was fleeing, police said.
