Polish mayor received the Hungarian Order of Merit
Mayor of Katowice Marcin Krupa has been decorated with the Hungarian Order of Merit, Knight’s cross in recognition of nurturing Polish-Hungarian friendship, the local mayor’s office said on Friday.
The award granted by President Katalin Novák was handed over by Krakow Consul General Tibor Gerencsér. Katowice has been cooperating for years with its Hungarian sister city Miskolc and has been regularly hosting a Hungarian Festival since 2010. A memorial paying tribute to Poles helping the 1956 Hungarian revolution was inaugurated in Katowice in 2017.
