President Áder has talks with Armed Forces commander
President János Áder held talks with Ferenc Korom, Commander of the Hungarian Armed Forces, in his office at the Sándor Palace on Wednesday.
Korom told a press conference after the meeting that he had briefed the president on the state of the armed forces, Hungary’s comprehensive military development scheme as well as the military’s various tasks related to the coronavirus epidemic.
The epidemic has not hindered the implementation of the military development programme in any way,
Korom said. He said he had also briefed Áder on the types of equipment the army was set to purchase over the coming years.
Concerning the epidemic, Korom noted that Hungarian soldiers were cooperating with law enforcement officers in monitoring transit corridors opened for traffic across the country. The military is also working with police in guarding the country’s closed border crossing points, he said.
Korom said
there were a total of 1,380 army personnel providing assistance with logistical and administrative tasks at 89 hospitals.
Also, there are 1,200 troops defending Hungary’s southern border, he said.
The commander added that the army had successfully handled all of its additional assignments in 2020.
