The asphalt gave way beneath a bus in Budapest’s 15th district on Monday morning after water washed away part of the road. Six people, including four children, were taken to hospital.
Road collapsed beneath packed bus
A section of road collapsed beneath a BKK bus carrying around 30–40 passengers in Budapest’s 15th district on Monday morning. The incident happened on Sződliget Street in Rákospalota after water washed away the road surface, according to Hungary’s disaster management authority.
Firefighters and ambulances were called to the scene, while the affected section of the road was closed to traffic. The National Ambulance Service later told Hungarian News Agency MTI that six people were taken to hospital from the scene.
Four children and one adult were transported with minor injuries, while another woman suffered a head injury. She was in a stable condition when taken to hospital.

Several bus routes diverted
The incident has caused significant disruption to public transport in the area. According to the Budapest Transport Centre (BKK), buses 96, 124, 225, 296 and 296A are currently operating on diverted routes.
As a result, the services are not currently stopping at Géza fejedelem Square, Sződliget Street or Fő Road.
The affected section of Sződliget Street remains closed while authorities deal with the damage caused by the collapsed road.
