Romanian communities to receive funds in Hungary
Miklós Soltész told a press conference in Gyula, in southern Hungary, that communities have won a total of 22.7 million on tenders for NGOs, 21 million for camps, and 38 million forints for cultural programmes. Another 42 million was won by tenders for smaller improvements such as energy upgrades, he said.
At the last census in 2021, 27,500 people said they belonged to the Romanian minority; currently, 2,033 children are attending public education institute operated by the minority, or learning Romanian in school, Soltész said. The government has ploughed 4 billion forints into those schools last year, and will raise funding this year to keep abreast of rising teachers’ wages, he added.
