Six charged in Germany over violent attacks in Budapest targeting alleged far-right supporters

Six people were charged in Germany with having attacked people they thought to be supporters of far-right ideologies in Budapest in February 2023, the Karlsruhe Public Prosecutor’s Office said.
The charges submitted to the Dusseldorf courts include taking part in organised crime, aggravated assault and attempted murder. The six people, who German authorities are handling as “alleged leftist extremists,” turned themselves in earlier this year with the request that they be tried in Germany rather than Hungary.
The Dusseldorf court is yet to decide on that matter, German news agency dpa said. A further member of the group was sentenced to prison in May 2023 in Germany, and another is being tried in Budapest, the statement said.
